But why do we need to be obsessed with being intelligent emotionally in order for us to be successful? Aren’t our emotions are making us weak, vulnerable, and bias? Isn’t it just fitting that we get rid of our emotions and focus more on being logical or just be technologically advanced? The quick answer is no, it creates more damage than benefits.

There’s never a day in your life which you never experience some kind of emotions, whether positive or negative emotions (we all have it). Our emotions play a vital and crucial role in our day to day lives, therefore it is needless to say, we also need to strengthen and sharpen our emotional intelligence in order for us to harness the beauty of it and helps fuel us to have a positive outlook in life.

Contrary to the old beliefs that human is only capable of experiencing 6 emotions, however according to Forbes, a new study published in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences conducted by Alan S. Cowen and Dacher Keltner, PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, identified 27 distinct categories of emotions. Imagine the number of emotions we can experience in a given day, isn’t it just right that we become a master of our emotions and use it to our advantage?

We are only as healthy as our emotions. Time and time again, this has been proven true. If Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and other people we consider successful today had given up after several failures and did not move forward through adversaries in life, if it wasn’t for their emotional intelligence we would never have Microsoft, Tesla, Amazon, Facebook and other amazing things that we enjoy today. But the greatest example is should be yourself.

Look how far you have become. You may still have a long way ahead of you, but at least, when your journey gets rough, you would know how to handle it and turn it into your own magic.

Our generation, which has been used to the lifestyle of “instants” and the quick gratification of our wants and desires (“thanks to technology). Almost everything becomes more convenient, services are faster more than ever, and it creates instant online connections.

However, in the process, we have lost some valuable aspects of us being human and it lowers the bar of our emotional intelligence, thus it creates a ripple effect that can obstruct our path to growth and success.
